What is Myofascial Release?

A holistic approach to wellness and recovery

Myofascial Release Therapy

Myofascial Release is a specialized hands-on therapy that focuses on relieving tension and restrictions within the fascia—the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, bones, and organs throughout the body. By addressing these restrictions, Myofascial Release can help reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore overall function.

At Live Well Durango Wellness Collective, Stephanie Salisbury offers  Myofascial Release sessions on Thursday and Saturdays. Using gentle, sustained pressure, Stephanie targets areas of tension and restriction to promote improved circulation, reduce discomfort, and support the body's natural healing process.

Whether you're recovering from a sports injury, experiencing postural imbalances, managing chronic pain, or dealing with stress-related tension, Myofascial Release can be an effective tool to support your wellness journey. This therapeutic approach not only addresses physical discomfort but also encourages deep relaxation and nervous system regulation.

Benefits of Myofascial Release

  • Reduces pain and muscle tension

  • Improves flexibility and range of motion

  • Supports recovery from injury and overuse

  • Enhances posture and movement patterns

  • Promotes nervous system regulation and relaxation

  • Encourages overall physical and emotional well-being

Many clients report feeling lighter, more mobile, and deeply relaxed following their sessions, making Myofascial Release a valuable addition to a comprehensive wellness plan.

Stephanie Salisbury

Physical Therapist & Myofascial Release Technique Practitioner

I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy and holistic wellness advocate with a deep passion for helping people feel safe, balanced, and at home in their bodies again.

I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Wichita State University in 2016, and since then, my work has evolved beyond traditional rehab into a more mind–body-centered approach to healing. I fell in love with John Barnes, PT Myofascial Release, Nervous System Regulation, and Vestibular Rehabilitation, blending evidence-based science with intuitive, whole-person care.

Experience Across the Lifespan

I have had the privilege of working with a diverse population from birth through older adulthood, supporting individuals at every stage of life. My clinical background is strongly rooted in neurological rehabilitation and chronic pain

This wide-ranging experience allows me to meet each person where they are — physically, emotionally, and neurologically — and tailor care that honors both their challenges and their potential.

What Makes My Approach Different

Rather than chasing symptoms, I focus on root causes. Each session is gentle, intentional, and deeply personalized. Using hands-on Myofascial Release, nervous system education, movement, and breathwork, I help clients reconnect with their bodies and build resilience from the inside out.

This work is especially supportive for people who:

• Feel stuck despite traditional therapy
• Live with chronic pain or neurological conditions
• Experience dizziness, imbalance, or nervous system overload
• Are seeking a holistic, integrative path to healing

A Little More About Me

I’m endlessly fascinated by the connection between the brain, body, fascia, and emotions. I believe healing can be both scientific and soulful — grounded in research while honoring intuition. My passion is empowering people with knowledge, curiosity, and hope, so healing feels accessible and sustainable.

Joanna's dance classes have the best music that makes you want to move your body. The vibe is uplifting, and it's a great workout without feeling like you are working out. She sets an environment where everyone is welcome and encouraged to dance and express themselves. 10/10 recommend her dance + strength class and the hip hop class, so much fun!!!

I have gone to several massage therapists over the years, whether in Scottsdale or on vacation somewhere or in Durango. Without a doubt, Joanna, is by far the best massage therapist. Any concerns are heard and addressed. The room is soothing allowing for a time to relax and enjoy. Joanna has been blessed with the gift of healing touch. If I could go weekly, I would.

Joanna was fabulous! I was quite overdue for a massage but she knew just the right amount of pressure to provide and was very in tune w my body (even mentioned an old injury I was unaware of) This was one truly one of the best, if not the best, massages I have ever had. I will be back!

I am quite literally obsessed with Joanna's dance and strength classes. I would have never guessed at the age of 40 that I'd be doing hip-hop style dance classes AND loving them! Moving my body in that way is so fun, and so empowering. Thank you for bringing this beautiful movement back into my life ❤️

Joanna is incredible! There are not enough words to suffice the joy she brings to a dance class, the calm and nurture she brings to a massage, or the overall loving presence she has. I highly recommend Live Well Durango for all things self care. Treat yourself, dance more and relax more.

I tell everyone I know to come to the LivinIT Dance & Strength class with Joanna on Tuesdays. The dance half is super fun and gets your heart rate up, while still being beginner friendly. (Trust me, I am no dancer!) And then the strength training is definitely a work-out, but still totally customizable to your individual level. You can feel yourself getting stronger each week! Plus, the regular attendees are wholly welcoming and supportive. The entire class is fantastic! You should 100% come try it out!!
