Joanna Maguire

Owner

I am a Licensed Massage Therapist with over 20 years of experience and a certified fitness instructor with more than 10 years in movement and dance-based fitness. Based in Durango, Colorado, I offer an integrative approach to wellness that combines therapeutic massage, mindful movement, and restorative bodywork. My areas of specialization include breathwork, stretching, Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, Thai massage, prenatal massage, reflexology, and movement-based therapies.

My journey into holistic and complementary medicine began after a car accident left me with chronic pain and intermittent neuropathy in my leg. While traditional Western medicine reassured me that my condition was neither a disease nor permanent, I was still left managing daily symptoms. In my late twenties, I discovered the profound healing benefits of massage therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic care—an experience that transformed my relationship with my body and inspired my career in wellness.

Movement has always been central to my work. I began dancing at Barefoot Dance Studio (now J. Bo Pizza & Rib Co.), learning traditional African dance and exploring the connection between rhythm, movement, and healing. This passion led me to train in group dance classes across the United States, where I experienced a wide range of movement styles and instructors. I eventually found my home in hip-hop–inspired dance fitness and now bring that energy, strength, and joy into every class I teach.

At the Live Well Durango Wellness Studio (1537 Florida Rd. Suite 105), I provide therapeutic massage services in a calm, spa-like environment, using handcrafted, organic body butter to support skin health and relaxation. I also lead movement and fitness classes in the Smiley Building, where I encourage healthy, functional movement that builds strength, improves mobility, and uplifts the spirit.

Inspired by my own healing journey and guided by a deep respect for the body’s natural ability to heal, I continue to expand my education and skills. Through my private practice, I am committed to offering personalized massage therapy and movement instruction that supports long-term wellness, pain relief, and overall vitality.

Stephanie Salisbury PT, DPT

Doctor of Physical Therapy & Myofascial Release Therapy

Doctor of Physical Therapy & Myofascial Release Therapy

I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy and holistic wellness advocate with a deep passion for helping people feel safe, balanced, and at home in their bodies again.

I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Wichita State University in 2016, and since then, my work has evolved beyond traditional rehab into a more mind–body-centered approach to healing. I fell in love with John Barnes, PT Myofascial Release, Nervous System Regulation, and Vestibular Rehabilitation, blending evidence-based science with intuitive, whole-person care.

Experience Across the Lifespan

I have had the privilege of working with a diverse population from birth through older adulthood, supporting individuals at every stage of life. My clinical background is strongly rooted in neurological rehabilitation and chronic pain

This wide-ranging experience allows me to meet each person where they are — physically, emotionally, and neurologically — and tailor care that honors both their challenges and their potential.

What Makes My Approach Different

Rather than chasing symptoms, I focus on root causes. Each session is gentle, intentional, and deeply personalized. Using hands-on Myofascial Release, nervous system education, movement, and breathwork, I help clients reconnect with their bodies and build resilience from the inside out.

This work is especially supportive for people who:

Feel stuck despite traditional therapy
Live with chronic pain or neurological conditions
Experience dizziness, imbalance, or nervous system overload
Are seeking a holistic, integrative path to healing

A Little More About Me

I’m endlessly fascinated by the connection between the brain, body, fascia, and emotions. I believe healing can be both scientific and soulful — grounded in research while honoring intuition. My passion is empowering people with knowledge, curiosity, and hope, so healing feels accessible and sustainable.

I have been looking for my go-to masseuse in Durango ever since I moved here. Joanna combines the perfect balance of attuning to the subtle energetic system and reading where I’m blocked or where I need the most release, as well as expert knowledge of anatomical and physical dynamics of the body and what would be the most therapeutic and healing for me in the moment. Joanna is exceptionally skilled at many therapeutic modalities and combines them in such beautifully intuitive ways to give me the most nurturing, healing, and stress-relieving experience. I love the hot stones, I love her custom-made massage oil blends that she uses with essential oils, I love the warm towels…a massage with Joanna has so many thoughtful and intentional details that make the massage feel more like a fully rejuvenating spa day! Joanna is a treasure, highly recommend!!
